Winifred “Winnie” J. (Sternhagen) Mindel, 99, of Neenah, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 2, 2021. Her family was at her side.
Winnie was born in Fern, WI on February 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Fredrick and Marguerite (Taft) Sternhagen. She married Dowain “Duke” Mindel on May 3, 1941 and together they raised seven children.
Winnie was a lifelong member of Martin Luther Church in Neenah. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs (Cubbies) and also loved playing cribbage with family and friends. She enjoyed parties, playing cards, and baking. Every week you could smell freshly baked bread in the hallways at Highlands at Mahler. Her greatest loves, however, were for her Savior and her family. She enjoyed anytime spent with them, and she will be dearly missed.
Winnie is survived by her children: Carol Mansfield, Robert (Victoria) Mindel, William (Patty) Mindel, Kathleen Wendt, and Debra (Steve) Cottrell. She also leaves 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Winnie is further survived by her daughter-in-law Joan Mindel, her son-in-law Jim Thielman, her sister, Nita Derocher, her brother-in-law, Wally Wilhelmi, and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. She also leaves behind her “Highlands Family” who meant so much to her in her final years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son, Darrell, her daughter, Pat Thielman, her sons-in-law, John Mansfield and Timothy Wendt, and her siblings: Marian (Clayton) Hughes, Lloyd (Arlene) Sternhagen, Joyce Wilhelmi, Audrey (Neil) Bailey, and her brother-in-law Louie Derocher.
Visitation for Winnie will be on Friday, September 10, 2021 from 10 to 12 Noon at MARTIN LUTHER LUTHERAN CHURCH (436 S. Lake Street, Neenah, WI 54956). A funeral service will follow at 12 Noon. Final rest will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Neenah.
