Steven J. Spanbauer, age 74, of Neenah passed away at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee due to health issues that were non-covid related. Steve was born on November 22, 1946 in Neenah to the late Joseph and Florence (Armstrong) Spanbauer. Steve was an entrepreneur and owned and operated an automotive service station in Neenah for 35 years. He was very involved in the Neenah community and gave back in many ways, including serving as City of Neenah Alderman, Town of Neenah Chairman, Winnebago County Supervisor and President of the Harbor Commission. He volunteered at the Boys and Girls Brigade and taught Boaters Safety. He was a long-standing member of the Neenah Club.
Steve was an honorable man, a good friend and neighbor and was always willing to lend a hand where he could. His hobbies and life were cars, boats and anything with an engine. If you could dream it, he could build it! He was an avid boater and always enjoyed walking his dog and having conversations with his friends and neighbors.
Steve is survived by his wife of 55 years, Stephanie (Quella), his two sons, Steve “Toby” (Keri Reich) Spanbauer and children, Erynn and Norah; Scott (Debbie Good) Spanbauer and children, Samantha and Lucie Spanbauer, Allison Oskin and Ashley (Oskin) Klein; and by his sister, Susan Spanbauer Schmidt, nieces and nephews. He is also lovingly survived by his dog Pumpkin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother- in-law, Richard L. Schmidt.
Steve was a loving Husband, Dad, Brother, Uncle, and Grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him. He loved his family above all else and thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life for Steve will be held at a later date. A special thank you to the healthcare workers at CVICU in Froedtert Hospital.
