Kenneth Edson Navine, 89, Neenah, passed away early Wednesday morning at Island Shores where he had been residing the last 6 years.
Kenn was born on April 15, 1931 in Janesville, WI, a son of the late Arnold F., Sr. and Avis (Gibberd) Navine. His early education was in Wisconsin and he went on to attend the Universities of Maryland and Wisconsin where he earned his BS and MSSW in social work. Kenn was a proud veteran and served his country in the US Air Force from 1951 – 1955, both in the US and England. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant before his honorable discharge.
Following his military service, Kenn married Barbara (Resch) on August 27, 1955 in Madison, WI. The two would go on to raise four children. Kenn’s career was long and accomplished. As a social worker, he held numerous positions: Catholic Social Services of Appleton, Supervisor of Family Services and Family Court Mediators for Winnebago County; Wisconsin Representative for both the Governor’s Committee for Child Care Health Issues and Board of Directors for the Int’l Committee of Family Court Mediators; a recruiter for the Wisconsin State Governor’s Position in Social Services; lecturer for St. Norbert College as well as the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh; past vice-president/secretary for the Junior Chamber of Commerce-Appleton; former administrator at three rehabilitation houses for the chronically, mentally ill; editor for the newsletter for the Interprofessional Committee on Divorce; a past commercial model for three modeling agencies; former assistant for Wichmann Funeral Home of Appleton and Sipples Mortuary in Savannah, GA. Kenn taught reading skills for first grade in Appleton, sketched and wrote poetry and served on numerous boards, committees, projects and forums.
Kenn had a long and enjoyable life. One thing he always remembered is the time he was on the Hawaiian Island of Maui. He rode a bike all the way down Mount Haleakala, the world’s largest dormant volcano, coasting from the summit to the sea. Kenn retired in 1990, moving to Savannah, GA in 1996. He returned to Appleton in 2004.
Kenn is survived by his children: Sara (Scott) Page of Menasha, WI, Paul (Ellen) Navine of Fox Point, WI and Beth Casperson of Neenah. He also leaves his grandchildren: Brian (Evie) Page of Forest Hills, NY, James Page of Menasha, Sarah (Robert Wepner) Casperson of Appleton, WI and Kevin (Kayla) Casperson of Neenah, WI and his great-grandchildren, Bruce and Isla Page. He is further survived by nephews, nieces and cousins.
Kenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Barbara in 1986, a son, Marc Navine, his brother, Arnold H. Navine, Jr., his sisters: Grace (Herbert) Brethhouwer and Ellen (John) Bauer, a niece, Jean Navine and the family dog, Benny.
Visitation for Kenn will be on Saturday, March 20, 2021 from 9 to 11 AM at KESSLER FUNERAL HOME (304 S. Commercial Street, Neenah, WI 54956). A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the funeral home. Interment with full military honors will be in St. Margaret Cemetery.
