John “Jack” Bruce Oppelt age 78, of Neenah, passed away peacefully at his home on January 1, 2022 surrounded by his loving family.
John was born to parents Dorothy and John Oppelt on March 12, 1943 in Appleton WI. A lifelong resident of Neenah, John graduated from Neenah High School in 1961. Following high school he attended Devry Tech in Chicago where he graduated in 1965.
It was while in Chicago that he met the love of his life, Kathy Saelens. They married in 1966 and eventually moved back to the Fox Valley where they raised their family of four kids - Jeff, Kelly, Todd, and Chad. Their family would eventually bloom to add eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. John enjoyed watching his family grow and always took the opportunity to explore with them - whether it was the barn out back, the garden, or even the collection of antiques throughout the house.
John built two businesses from the ground up - Racing Electronics and KJ Antiques. Both encompassed his passions of electronics and antiques. John was always on the move, working in the shop, tending his garden, meeting friends at the YMCA, checking out the latest auction, or traveling to his favorite casino in Tunica, MS - where the friendships made were even more important than the winnings he brought home.
John was preceded in death by his parents John and Dorothy Oppelt, parents-in-law Joseph and Margaret Saelens, sister-in-law Jean Bielski, brother-in-law Jay Woody, and nephew Jason Hosmer.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 56 years Kathy Oppelt, daughter Kelly (Chris) Butzlaff; sons Jeff (Judy), Todd (Sherri), and Chad (Kim); sisters Julie (Jay) Woody, Kathy (Al) Skubal; brother Jim; grandchildren Andrew (Cassy), Nichol (Nelson), Jeremy, Jordan (Olivia), Mikayla, Dory, Maria, and Thomas; and great-grandchildren Annalise, Ethan, Max, and Aurora.
