John Robert Bestler, Jr., 90, Neenah, passed away in the evening hours of Sunday, April 18, 2021 following a period of declining health. He was surrounded by family.
John was born in Appleton, WI on June 7, 1930, a son of the late John, Sr. and Muriel (Jessmer) Bestler. He attended local schools and was a lifetime resident of the area. John married Ruth (Giesbers) and together they raised two children. He was a proud Marine having served honorably during the Korean Conflict from September 15, 1950 to August 31, 1951. He participated in the liberation of Seoul as well as in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. John worked as an installer for AT&T retiring several years ago.
John is survived by his children: Craig J. Bestler and Jacklyn (Jeff) Vander Houde. He also leaves his grandchildren: Mackenzie, Kolby and Hue, his sister, Yvonne (the late Maurie) Terrio and Bernard (Joan) Bestler. John is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruth.
A graveside service with full military honors is being planned for August of this year at Oak Hill Cemetery (Oakridge Road, Neenah).
