Obituary

John H. Backer, age 85 of Neenah, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 surrounded by family at his home. John was born on January 16, 1935 to the late Adelbert and Adelia (Ebert) Backer. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving from 1953 until 1957. John married Trudy Goodwin on June 25, 1960 in Madison. After retiring from his job as a salesman, he enjoyed driving coach for Kobussen Bus and traveling to many places. John was a member of Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church in Neenah. John was a very dedicated husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and spending time outdoors.

John is lovingly survived by his five children: Vicky (Bill) Griffin, Kristi (Jerry) Evansen, Cindy (Charles) Emshoff, John (Pam) Backer Jr., Tracy Backer; 15 grandchildren: Amy (Steven) Childers, Billy Griffin, Jessica (Jeremy) Drewitz, Jared Evansen, Jasmine (Cody) Kundinger, Eric (Rachel) Emshoff, Mark Emshoff and girlfriend Meredith, Angie (B.J.) Dorschner, Bradley (Lane) Backer, Nathan Backer, Kevin (Morgan) Backer, Erica, Jordin, Jeremy, Jaime Selwitschka; 13 great-grandchildren: Kinley Childers, Beckett Griffin, Caleb, Isaiah, Ezra Emshoff, Jaylen, Natalia, Allison DeJesus, Blake, Logan, Brooke, Hudson Dorschner and Norah Kundinger. He is further survived by a brother-in-law, Jerry Wood and sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Johanna Backer and many other relatives. In addition to his wife Trudy, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Tom Backer, Louise (Hal) Raether and David Backer.

A Christian Funeral Service for John will be held at Martin Luther Ev. Lutheran Church in Neenah at a later date. A memorial is being established.
