Obituary

Jerold Payne, 91, of Neenah, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Jerold was born on September 21, 1930, in Neenah, the son of Edley and Grace (Porath) Payne. Jerold proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. during the Korean War. Jerold was united in marriage to Shirley Gawlick on September 26, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran, Neenah. They spent over 68 memorable years together. Jerold was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Neenah. He was employed by Kimberly Clark Corporation for 22 years, retiring in 1989. In his retirement, he enjoyed building 91 bird houses of which one was included in a bird magazine, spending time at his cottage on Roberts Lake and his many grandchildren.  In his younger years he was a member of the Nicole Region Model A Club restoring 29 cars and also enjoyed helping other members with restoring their cars.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his four children: Jeffrey Payne, Kathy (Kelly) Murphy, Nancy (Shawn Smith) Payne, and Michelle (Tony) Blocker; daughter-in-law Debbie; 8 grandchildren: Jason (Jamie) Payne, Ryan (Liz) Payne, Jena and Justin (Cassie) Murphy, Anthony (fiancée Jen) and Logan (girlfriend Karlee) Blocker, Giovanni (fiancée Caitlyn) and Erin Perillo; 7 great grandchildren: Ayden, Jameson, Ava Payne, Sage Murphy, Lorenzo, Vincent Perillo and Archer Blocker; sister-in-law Judy Payne, other relatives, special friends Larry (Sharon) Krause, Dean (Jody) Lenhardt, and many others on Roberts Lake.

In addition to his parents, Jerold was also preceded in death by a son Steven, brother Robert and sister (brother-in-law) Lois (Clarence) Denny, grandchildren Lindsey and Michael Murphy and good friends Lyle (Audrey) Lathrop.

My Dad… First guy to ever love me. First to sweep me off my feet or plant those scratchy whisker kisses gently on my cheek. First man to take me seriously. First pal I ever had. First guy I ever gave my heart to… That’s my Dad! (love your daughters)

Special thank you to Theda Care Hospice nursing staff for their compassion and care given to our father.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 407 Oak Street, Neenah (please wear a mask for mom). Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Jerold’s name.
