We lost our dear sister, aunt and friend, Jean M. Kitchin, who passed away peacefully on Friday, July 15, 2022, at the age of 81, one day before her birthday. Although a proud Neenah resident all of her life, Jean spent the last six years a resident of Brewster Village in Appleton surrounded by attentive caregivers.
On July 16, 1940, Jean Marie was born to Laurance “Bunny” and Marie (Peck) Kitchin in Appleton. Following her graduation from Neenah High School in 1958, she went on to nursing school at St. Agnes School of Nursing in Fond du Lac, graduating in 1961. Jean had started working for Dr. Glenn Gustafson shortly after school and continued her career with him for 41 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed skiing and trips to Shawano Lake. She was always ready for an intense Sheepshead game with family and friends; and enjoyed hosting Bridge Club with her friends. She was the family historian, telling stories and recalling dates from her family’s past. She loved to save treasures in her attics for the generations after her to explore. Jean was an avid gardener, with beautiful flowerbeds and a lawn meticulously maintained. She enjoyed watching and feeding the birds too, she especially loved spotting cardinals at her feeders.
A loving, generous and caring person, Jean was the heart of her family and will be incredibly missed by her twin brother, James Kitchin, Ohio; her sister, Mary (Dennis) Bachmayer, Neenah. Devoted aunt of Laura (Mark) Sokol, Pennsylvania; Pat (Jodi) Kitchin, Michigan; David (Candice) Kitchin, Canada, and Jolene (Scott) Moon, Neenah. Loving great aunt of Hannah Sokol, Arizona; Quinn Lei and Olivia Sokol, Pennsylvania; Emily (Trevor) Gonzalez, Michigan; Benjamin Kitchin, Michigan; Jack Kitchin, Canada; Emma Keddell, Neenah and Kaley Keddell, Neenah.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Richard Kitchin; her nephew, Marc Bachmayer; a sister-in-law, Sandie Kitchin, and her friend, Gus, whom later in their lives became wonderful companions.
A Memorial Prayer Service will be held at 11:30 am on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Kessler-Fahrenkrug Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial Street in Neenah and will be conducted by Fr. Gene Gries, long-time classmate and friend of Jean and her family. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 10:30 am until the time of the service. The Committal service for Jean will be held at St. Margaret Cemetery for those wishing to attend following the gathering at the funeral home.
Please consider a contribution to the charity of your choice in memory of Jean as there are so many in need now.
Jean’s family would like to express their utmost gratitude to all the staff at Brewster Village. The compassion, loving care and respect given to everyone living there, as well as their families, is truly appreciated.
When I come to the end of the road,
And the sun has set for me;
I want no rites in a gloom filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too long,
And not with your head bowed low;
Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we all must take,
And each must go alone;
There will be a time when we meet again,
But for now you must let me go.
