Obituary

1934 –2021

After 87 years, 4 months, 8 days, 23 hours, and 55 minutes on this earth I finally made it to heaven, and it is spectacular!

I was greeted with an overwhelming feeling of love from my beloved husband Carl and sweet grandson PJ (Reiser). Hand in hand they led me down a beautiful garden path where everyone had been waiting for me! My parents William and Ann Ceelen were there along with my siblings and in-laws Hank & Audrey Ceelen, Charlotte Bruss, Dianna & Herman Schmidt, Bea Gretchel, Jeanne & Ray Grable, Bill Ceelen, Tony Ceelen, my baby sister Pat Kraus, Al “Puppa” & Leone “Meem” Sawyer, Jack Neubauer, Mardelle & Carleton Giese. OH, HOW I HAVE MISSED THEM ALL!

I had a great life starting out in Oshkosh WI as the sixth of 10 children in my family. I met my husband Carl by way of a car accident, and it was really close to love at first sight. We were married December 29th, 1951 and for 62 years I was his Queenie, and he was my Shuggie. We lived in San Antonio, TX, and Riverside, CA all courtesy of the US Air Force, Neenah, WI, Marietta, GA and Kimberly, WI.

I loved my job at Kimberly-Clark on the International Non-Woven R&D team where I was fortunate enough to travel in many countries around the world while making numerous lifelong friends, like my best friend Linda Morgan. After we retired Carl & I traveled and made many trips to Holland to visit my father’s family. It was wonderful to meet and form lasting connections with my Dutch aunts and cousins over the years.

Besides loving all things Dutch, my passions have always been my family, birds, gardening, and nature. Being a seed saver extraordinaire, I loved working in my vegetable and flower gardens in the summer and nurturing my indoor plants all year long. I have always been fascinated by birds, from the “little shitters” I fed outside my door to the loons on the lake at our cabin, the beauty of nature has always brought much joy to my life.

Blessed by a large extended family, I sadly leave behind my daughter Ann (Paul) Reiser, grandsons Chad (Becky) Reiser, Garrit Reiser, Grant (Nicole) Reiser. Son Dan (Linda) Sawyer, grandsons Matthew Sawyer, Ben Sawyer, and great grandson Aiden Sawyer. Son Todd (Diane) Sawyer, grandson David Sawyer (special friend Meg Day), granddaughter Kristi “Krissy” Schmidt and great granddaughter and name-sake Grace Schmidt. Daughter Mary “Mimi” Sawyer-(Joel) Mills and the baby of the family my daughter Patti Sawyer. My sister Rose (Jim) Scheuermann, In-Laws; Karlene “Sis” Neubauer, Joyce Ceelen, Lynn Kraus, Patti Ceelen and all my 44 nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Grace at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the WHITING BOAT HOUSE ON 5TH STREET IN NEENAH. Gathering of family and friends will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Thank you to the staff of Island Shores, Oak Park Place and Compassus Hospice for all the care and compassion shown to me.

So, with MUCH LOVE until we meet again, VINGA – VINGA!
