Eugene “Gene” Merle Bahlman passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Gene was born in Richmond, Indiana on August 12, 1929 to the late Merle and Hazel (Haustetter) Bahlman. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1947, attended Arthur Jordan Conservatory of Music in Indianapolis and graduated from Indiana University in 1956. His education was interrupted by serving in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War with assignments in Colorado Springs, CO, Madison, WI and Fairbanks, AK. While in Madison, Gene met and later married Marjorie Ann Brose on August 30, 1952. Upon graduation from IU he was employed at American Can for 10 years and then at Kimberly-Clark for 25 years retiring in 1991. His job assignments included various financial positions.
An important part of Gene’s life was music, having played the trumpet since age 12. He was very active with various musical groups including two U.S. Air Force Bands, the Green Bay Packer Band, the Neenah Community Band, the Ambassadors Dance Band, the Geriatric Jazz Group, Harry and the Jazz Rats and many others including sessions with the Glenn Miller and Jimmy Dorsey bands. He was also active with Little League Baseball while his sons were growing up.
Gene was a member of St. Margaret Mary Parish since 1958 serving as a trustee for a period of time and spending an hour each week at the Adoration Chapel. In addition, Gene enjoyed silent retreats at the Jesuit Retreat House in Oshkosh for many years.
In addition to his wife Marjorie, Gene is survived by five sons, Tom (Jane), Neenah; Jim (Margie), Appleton; Bob (Lisa), Southwest Ranches, FL; Jack (Cindy), Verona, WI; Gene, Appleton, WI; and a son-in-law, Philip Codd, Palm Harbor, FL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Becky, Christa, Katie, Mark, Matthew, Anna, Maggie and Stephanie, and six great grandchildren, Kylah, Tommy, Nichole, Gianna, Anthony and Dominic. He is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Linda and one brother, Jack.
A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah with Father Nonito Barra officiating. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass. Full Military Honors will be held by the Neenah-Menasha Funeral Honors Team following the mass. Burial will be in St. Margaret Cemetery in Neenah. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to either St. Margaret Mary Parish in Neenah or the Mount Tabor Center in Menasha.
