Dorothy Mae Forsythe

December 5, 1933 ~ September 9, 2022 (age 88)

Dorothy Mae Forsythe, Neenah, age 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 9, 2022, in the arms of her daughter. She lived the past 6+ years with vascular dementia and beat the Covid virus in 2020 prior to vaccine availability, but succumbed to a recent stroke.  Dorothy was born in Menasha on December 5, 1933, the 10th child of the late John F. and Cecilia (Pozolinski) Zenefski.

Dorothy attended St. John’s Grade School in Menasha, Oshkosh High School, and graduated from Neenah High School. She married Keith W. Forsythe on September 5, 1953, at St. Patrick’s Church, Menasha. They spent 49 years together prior to Keith’s passing in December of 2002.

Dorothy worked in the IBM department at Marathon Corporation, then became a homemaker. In the mid-1970‘s, she worked at Park ‘N’ Market’s Best Bakery. Dorothy was known as “the Sunshine Lady” due to her sunny disposition behind the bakery counter. She was very proud of being a charter member of St. Gabriel Parish in Neenah, where she spent her time volunteering for the church in many roles, in the school classrooms and lunchroom, and with the funeral choir. Dorothy also volunteered at Theda Clark Hospital. She was very supportive of the school and sports activities of her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy and Keith enjoyed traveling all over the United States, Hawaii, Canada, and Mexico. One of Dorothy’s favorite memories was their Canadian round-trip flight on the supersonic Concorde. They both enjoyed 13 active retirement winters in their snowbird home on the Little Manatee River in Ruskin, Florida.

Dorothy was an avid reader. She was a loving mom who had a strong Catholic faith; reading prayer books and saying the Rosary was very important to her. Dorothy was proud of her Polish heritage and liked to make some traditional Polish recipes.

Dorothy is survived by daughter Diane (Herb) Schanke of Minocqua/Oshkosh, grandchildren Joshua, Adam, and Connor Schanke, Michael (Ashton) and Stacy (Brandon) Forsythe, 6 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Marlinda Shukosky, brother-in-law Jim (Deb) Hooyman, extended family and friends.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, all 9 siblings, husband Keith, sons Jeffrey and Gerald, in-laws Bernard and Marie Forsythe, and numerous other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30am on Friday, September 16, 2022, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 900 Geiger St., Neenah, with Rev. Bob Kollath officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30am until the Mass time. Inurnment will be at Shrine of Heaven Mausoleum, Neenah.  Kessler-Fahrenkrug Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
