Aurora Maria (Yañez) Velasco of Neenah, passed away unexpectedly at ThedaCare Regional Medical
Center on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She was surrounded by family.
Aurora was born in Nopala, Hidalgo, Mexico in 1941, a daughter of the late Fernando and Petra (Mejià)
Yañez. She emigrated to the United States in 1964 on a work visa, became a Permanent Resident and
attained her US Citizenship in 1999. Aurora raised two daughters with her former husband, Ernesto and
worked as a housekeeper in earlier years.
Aurora possessed a strong faith and was a member of St. Gabriel Parish, Neenah. She had a special
devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and was a former member of the St. Mary’s Guadalupe Society.
Aurora also enjoyed taking long walks and watching her telenovelas each day.
In earlier years, Aurora enjoyed visiting friends and relatives in Mexico whenever she could. She will be
remembered as a generous person who cared deeply for others. Aurora made many friends in the
community and will be sadly missed.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters: Brenda (Jeff) Mizenko of Summerset, SD and Dayna
Velasco of Portland, OR. She is further survived by her sister, Crescencia “Cres” Yañez of Neenah,
Genoveva Yañez, Christina (Simon) Yañez de Covarrubias, Antonio Yañez and Alfonso (Josefina) Yañez,
all of Mexico. Aurora is further survived by other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Petra Mejía de Yañez and Fernando Yañez, her former
husband, Ernesto, her brother, Jose Yañez and her sister Concepción Yañez de Rojas.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 10, 2021 at 5pm at ST. GABRIEL’S PARISH (900 Geiger St.,
Neenah, WI 54956) with visitation starting at 4pm. Final rest will be in private in Mexico.

Special thanks to ThedaCare Regional Medical Center nursing staff for their attentiveness to her
comfort. The family also wishes to thank their aunt, Cres, Aurora’s sister for being her faithful
companion for over 20 years.
