Anna Marie Potratz

June 17, 1934 ~ May 15, 2022 (age 87)

Anna Marie Potratz (Kellnhauser), 87, Village of Fox Crossing, peacefully left this world to be with God on Sunday, May 15, 2022, after a year of health issues and a recent diagnosis of mesothelioma cancer. Anna was born in Menasha on June 17, 1934, to the late Hugo and Frances (Endres) Kellnhauser. Anna was united in marriage to James (Jim) Joseph Potratz on October 29, 1955, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Menasha, where they became lifelong members of the Parish.

Anna’s primary occupation was stay-at-home Mom and homemaker which her children loved and are forever grateful.

Sewing was one of Anna’s passions. She began sewing Barbie doll clothes in 1963 and continued almost 6 decades. Throughout the years she created other crafts including American Girl doll clothes, plastic canvas holiday magnets, and her legendary potholders in which many family members and friends currently have in their kitchens or have given as gifts throughout the years. She has asked her daughter to continue the potholder tradition. Anna sold her crafts out of her home in the early years by placing an ad in the newspaper at Easter and Christmas for a little extra income to make the holidays even better for her family. Beginning in the eighties, Anna became a vendor at craft shows and Jim joined her with his hand-crafted doll furniture when he retired. Anna enjoyed seeing the smiling faces of customers as they picked out items in her craft booth. She and Jim were vendors for almost twenty-five years, and she continued after Jim’s passing. She also enjoyed selling her beautiful crafts at Cedar Ridge Crafts & Gifts in Neenah for the past several years.

As talented as Anna was at making crafts, she was equally a wonderful cook and baker. In her early years, she took advantage of all the wonderful summer and fall produce by canning and freezing. She spent many hours in the kitchen! Her meals were delicious and prepared with love which made them extra special. She created cookie and candy plates every Christmas for family and friends. Her gift of hospitality was amazing!

Anna enjoyed camping and traveling the states with her family beginning in the seventies starting out in a tent and then in a pop-up trailer. Her favorite place to visit was South Dakota. Anna and Jim landed as seasonal campers at Pineland Camping Park in Arkdale for over twenty-six years.

Anna also enjoyed listening to polka music which she was doing as she left her earthly home for her Heavenly home. She enjoyed playing cards, her beautiful peony and flower gardens, growing tomatoes every summer and sharing them as they all ripened at the same time, and visiting with relatives and friends, just to name a few things.

Anna is survived by her children, Michael Potratz, Robert Potratz, John (Margaret) Potratz, Susan (Bruce) Schucknecht, three grandchildren, sister, Joan (Dave) Barribeau and sister-in-law, Donna Kellnhauser, other relatives, special neighbors, and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, whom she shared 61 years until his passing in 2017; her son, William, whom she missed dearly since his passing in 2021; brothers, James & George (Doris) Kellnhauser; sister, Dorothy Kellnhauser; brother-in-law, Douglas (Ruth) Potratz; sister-in-law, Mary (Tom) Huhn; and mother-in-law, Mary Potratz.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 528 Second St., Menasha, with Fr. Michael Lightner officiating. Inurnment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Menasha. Visitation will be Thursday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass.

The family would like to thank the ThedaCare Hospice team for helping the family honor Anna’s wishes to be at home. Every person on this team was wonderful, but a special thank you to Lexi and Claudia for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided to Anna.

We could not have asked for a better Mom. She was a one-of-a-kind strong woman who will be dearly missed. We love you, Mom!!
