It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of Roger Louis Ackerman, 75 years old, on Monday evening. While in the company now of our dear Lord and his parents Lou and Jo Ackerman, he leaves behind his beloved wife Janis of 24 years, his children Lori, Mark and Jill and their spouses Christian, Nancy and Jamie, his step-children Sam, Charlie, Bronwyn, Jenny and Andy, and his eleven grandchildren Elle, Ross, Caroline, Lauren, Jack, Isabelle, Christopher, Sophia, Karisa, Madison and Rhys.
Roger was born March 29, 1942 in Columbus, Indiana and grew up in Elmhurst, Illinois, attended York High School before going on to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, in the ROTC program. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Marine Corp and spent 20 months in Viet Nam. After leaving the service, he began his career in purchasing with the Ford Motor Company, until he moved to Neenah in 1977 to work at Menasha Corp, where he retired from in 1997 and has since enjoyed part-time jobs as needed with Kessler Funeral Home and Bergstrom organization.
Roger had a passion for his family, his 40 year old handmade wooden boat Tradition, time on the water, sports, reading, puzzles, his woodworking shop, and the care of their dog Jerry. He will be remembered dearly for the love and joy he brought to Jan and his family, being a wonderful grandfather, and his eager willingness to help whenever needed. He was in the prime of his life, and will be terribly missed by his wife and loving family, dear friends and those he touched in the community.
