Robert Francis "Bob" JankowskiFebruary 21, 1932 ~ August 17, 2017 (age 85)
Robert F. Jankowski, 85, Neenah, died Thursday, August 17, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family. Bob tried so very hard to live with cancer and did not want to be a burden. His family was very proud that they were able to care for him at home. He was born February 21, 1932, in Menasha, the son of Frank and Regina (Tadych) Jankowski. He graduated from Neenah High School with the class of 1950.
He served his country more than we will know in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War and Vietnam. He was very happy that he was able to be on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2013. Bob married Lorraine Jach on September 26, 1959 at Hofa Park, WI and together they had two children. As an adult, he took dance lessons so he could Polka with his wife. They were quite the dancers travelling around the state to many Polka fests. He had a strong work ethic and took pride in providing for his family. He was a firefighter and EMT with the Neenah Fire Department for 26 years and during that time he also was employed with Zaug's Vending and supervised the food service at the EAA Air shows in Oshkosh for many years. After his retirement he worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital as a courier and loved the people he met there. He was quite the handyman and could creatively fix anything. He had a great sense of humor, was very entertaining, had a great smile and loved to chat with anyone he met. He kept his phone number unlisted for privacy, so we always knew who it was when the "private caller" called. He was proud of his polish heritage and made the best Czarnina (duck soup). He is also famous for his authentic tacos he made on Christmas Day. Luckily, he gave us the secret recipe for the tacos just before he died. His faith was important to him and he was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, Neenah. He was sentimental and believed in helping those who had less than him.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lorraine; son, Michael Jankowski and daughter Teresa (Jeff) Paulus; his joy: grandchildren Sara and Alyssa Paulus; brothers: Carl (Joyce), Vern (Lorraine) and Tom Jankowski and their families; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Carol, his grandson Brian Paulus, sister-in-law, Karen Jankowski and two brothers-in-law: Alvin and Celestine Jach.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 23,2017, at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah, with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church from 9:00 am until the time of the Mass. Full military honors will be presented immediately following Mass by active duty members of the US Navy and the Neenah-Menasha Veterans Honors Team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are appreciated in Bob's name.
Bob's family wishes to thank Hillary, the Affinity Hospice nurse who was most gentle and patient and provided great support.
Bob offered great advice: Turn off the lights! Close the door, don't heat the outside. Do it right the first time. Best of all: Leave things better than when you found them. Dad you left this world better than you found it.
