Irene Marx, age 94, of Neenah, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, October 20, 2018. Irene was born on January 30, 1924, daughter of the late Ben and Rose Ropella. She married Eugene Marx in Colorado Springs, days before he was shipped overseas to fight in World War II to help preserve the freedom we all enjoy today.
Irene was a faithful member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church since 1948. She enjoyed over 30 years working in the rectory were she developed lifelong friendships and mutual respect with many of the priests whom passed through the doors. Irene was a proud and loyal member of the Third Order of St. Francis and The Legion of Mary. She spent countless hours in nursing homes and hospitals giving comfort and support to family members and strangers alike. Her proudest accomplishment was raising her two boys, a truly proud mom. Irene was also an awesome grandma for way to short of a time and an inspirational God Mother for many, all claiming to be her favorite.
Irene is survived by Kevin Marx (son), Lillian Shadduck (sister), Gladys Bastian (sister) and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by Eugene Marx (husband), Dennis Marx (son), Tammy Jo Marx (granddaughter), Ben (Benedict) Ropella (father), Rose Ropella (Dombrowski) (mother), Regina Ropella (sister), Edwin Ropella (brother), Florian Ropella (brother), Ruffin (Rudy) Ropella (brother), Dennis (Pete) Ropella (brother), George Ropella (brother), Dorothy Maness (sister), Theresa James (sister).
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church, 620 Division St., Neenah with Fr. Dennis Bergsbaken officiating and Fr. Dennis Drury concelebrating . Visitation will be held on Thursday evening at the Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. There will be a prayer service led by family friend Chaplin Jordan at 7:00 p.m. to conclude the evening. Visitation will also be held at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. There will be a Rosary held at 10:30 by members of the Legion of Mary. Burial will be in St. Margaret Cemetery. A memorial is being established.
