Dee Novotny, 84, Neenah, peacefully departed life on August 8, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 30, 1935, to Blasé and Esther Thiel in Hilbert, WI. Dee graduated from Kiel High School in 1953 along with her twin brother, Dave Thiel.. She started her career as an office manager, managing all facets of the business at Twin City Office Supply in Neenah, WI. Later in life, she began selling office supplies and furniture for General Office Supply -- there was nothing that Dee could not sell. Dee married Paul W Stevenson and raised three children, Scott (Lynn) Stevenson of Eden Prairie, MN; Todd (Nancy) Stevenson of Neenah, WI and Judd (Judy) Stevenson of Neenah, WI. After she started and operated Court Weight Losers, Dee met the love of her life, Alvin Novotny. They enjoyed an amazing life together, spending time between Marco Island, FL and Appleton, WI until Al’s death in 1988. Dee moved to the Memorial Park Condominiums in Neenah in 1993.
Dee felt it was very important to give back to the community. She was very passionate about her volunteer duties at Future Neenah, Inc. in downtown Neenah. No job was too small, and she completed every task with a smile. She especially loved the Out to Lunch Summer Concert Series at Shattuck Park and the Ultimate Ladies Day. She was particularly proud of her Future Neenah Volunteer of the Year Award in 2013.
Summer was her favorite time of the year. Between lunch concert series and other evening concerts, she was a very busy lady. She loved spending hours at the condo's pool, where she was known to frequently "hold court". Dee also enjoyed playing bridge with her several bridge groups and was awarded various masterpoints. As much as she enjoyed the game, it was the friendships that bridge afforded her that meant the most. Also special to Dee were her exercise friends from Curves and later the YMCA. No exercise session was complete without coffee at McDonalds!
Dee enjoyed life, especially getting involved in the activities of her grandchildren. She was a Neenah fan no matter the sport and loved to reward kids with Skittles – no matter the outcome of the game or performance. She had a penchant for bringing out the best in people and always helping others in need.
Dee is survived by her three sons, her brother, David (Elisabeth) Thiel of Appleton, WI, and six amazing grandchildren: Ashley Stevenson of Neenah, WI, Tyler John Stevenson of Milwaukee, WI, Amber (Nathan) Otis of Madison, WI, Taylor Anne Stevenson of Minneapolis, MN, Ali Stevenson of Minneapolis, MN and Lizzie Stevenson of Ilkley, England. She was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Madeline and Theodore Otis of Madison, WI. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jeannette, her brother-in-law, Wayne Peters, her sister, Linda and her brother-in-law, Frank Peterman.
It was Dee's wish to have a celebration of her life which will be held at St Margaret Mary’s Church, 620 Division Street, Neenah, WI on Monday, August 12, 2019, at 11:00am. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00a.m.until 10:45a.m.
