DeBruin, Lloyd J. Lloyd DeBruin, 70, Little Chute, passed away Monday, August 17, 2009. He was born August 29, 1938, in Little Chute, son of the late Henry and Laura (Boser) DeBruin. Lloyd was employed at Foremost Foods in Appleton and later retired from Brillion Iron Works. He also was employed at Gelbke Nursery for 20 years and loved working for Paul. Mr. DeBruin was a U. S. Air Force veteran serving his country from 1955 to 1959. He enjoyed landscaping and gardening along with watching sports, fishing, playing cards, especially cribbage and going up north visiting with family and friends. Lloyd is survived by his children: Lynn (Henry) Coonen, Kaukauna; Larry (Liz) DeBruin and LuAnn (Keith) Ziebell, both of Neenah; grandchildren: Kristy and Ryan Coonen; William, John and Jessica DeBruin; Sam and Max Melzer, fiancée Janice Jansen, Little Chute and her children: Thomas (Robin) Jansen, Grand Chute; Pam (Joe) Fritz , Little Chute; George Jansen, Little Chute; Darlene (Dan Ver Voort) Jansen, Little Chute; the mother of his children, Judy Doughty, New London; brothers: Robert (Janice) DeBruin, Kaukauna; Gordon DeBruin, Carter; Harold (Carolyn) DeBruin, Pulcifer; Victor (Jean) DeBruin, White Lake; sisters: Evelyn (Martin) Van Schyndel, Kaukauna; Dorothy Hawley, Seymour; Elaine (Casey) Van Cuyk, Combined Locks; Judy (Jim) Menting, Little Chute; sister-in-law: Juanita DeBruin, Appleton. He is further survived by nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brothers: Donald, Toby (Pat), John, Melvin (Virgie) and Lee DeBruin; sisters: Clara (Roman) Simon and Genevieve (Henry) Van Schyndel. Private family graveside services will be held at St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Lloyd’s family wishes to thank all the people who have taken such great care of Dad, especially his fiancée Janice, Dr. Swanson and hospice nurse Angela.
Dempsey, Bernice Marie (Prentice) Bernice Dempsey, 84, Appleton, formerly of Combined Locks, passed away after a long and fulfilling life. She was born December 20, 1924, in Appleton, daughter of Frank and Ilga (Huettl) Prentice. Bernice married Douglas Dempsey June 17, 1948, who preceded her in death October 10, 1987. Mrs. Dempsey was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined Locks and was a longstanding member of their sewing ladies group. She enjoyed card playing, puzzles and sewing. Bernice is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Jean (Bill) Olson, Sherwood and their children, Jeremy (Desiree) Olson, Appleton, Elizabeth Olson, Adam Olson both of Sherwood; Mary Winge and her children, Tracy Winge and fiancée Becca Mertens, De Pere, and his son Jayd Winge, Becky Winge and fiance Jay Moffet, Oconomowoc, and their son Aden Moffet, David Winge, Seymour, Melissa Winge, Appleton; James (Jeanne) Dempsey, Hortonville and their children, J.J. (Marlo) Dempsey, Menasha and their children, Cody, Blake and Caitlin Dempsey, Erik (Patti) Dempsey, Sherwood and their children, Josiah, Mercedes and Grace Dempsey, Stephanie (Eric) Freville, Cleveland, WI and their child, Malachi Freville; Mike Dempsey, Madison; Donna (Joe) Weihing, Greenville and their children, Sarah (Jeremy) Mutchie, Appleton and their children, Dominic, Tori, Lexie Delchambre, James and Maya Mutchie, Travis Altenhofen, North Carolina, Jessica (Jerry) Robinson, Appleton and their child, Jeslynn Robinson, Joshua Altenhofen, Appleton, Jillian and Tabitha Weihing, Greenville; Patrick (Samantha) Dempsey, Menasha and their children, Leslie Dempsey and special friend James, Appleton, Jarod and Jake Dempsey, Menasha. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ilga Prentice; brother, Gerald Prentice; sister, Geraldine Prentice. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 2009, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 410 Wallace Street, Combined Locks, with Rev. James Lucas officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Hortonville. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday and at the church from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until the time of the mass. A parish prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
